Lurking in Pinterest

my new "go to" quilting design--practice drawing on left
Time can disappear when I sit in front of the computer. Those minutes can turn into hours, my backside becomes numb, and I'm angry at myself for the time lost.  And that's why I don't have a Pinterest account.  I could disappear in there for days.

quilting on the finished "Etchings" quilt--medium gray thread
So I'm only a Pinterest lurker--popping in now and then with a specific goal, and then out.    I wanted a filler FMQ design to use in my "Etchings" quilt top.  I easily found Pinterest accounts packed with wonderful designs.  A couple favorites were the accounts of ruby50 and mandmplus3.

I like this design.  It's simple, fills in spaces, and it's not just a curvy, meandering line.  It worked well.  It was labeled by ruby50 as "my go-to machine quilting pattern."  It may be mine too.

If a quilting design passes my drawing-with-a-finger test, then I practice on transparency sheets.  Remember those?  They were used on an overhead projector in a school class or a meeting --  before Power Point presentations. I have an unused box of those heavy plastic sheets, plus the special marking pens.  Just a little water to wash off marks, and I can use them again and again.
ALL DONE -- ready for giveaway at work

Two finishes this weekend.  Both are ready for a giveaway at work this coming week.  Bonnie Hunter's "Bricks and Stepping Stones" pattern on the left of this photo, made from flannels.
On the right, the Moda "Etchings" finished quilt.

Ready to be sandwiched and quilted -- 66 x 77"
The Courtyard quilt I wrote about here a week ago has gone together just fine.  I was lamenting the challenge of matching all the seams, block to block, row to row.   It helps if all the blocks have been made correctly.  I found 2 blocks cut inaccurately in the last step.  No wonder the seams didn't look like they'd match -- they didn't.  Those 2 blocks were replaced with new blocks, cut and sewn correctly.   This quilt is being sandwiched today, and then I'll start quilting, again with my new favorite FMQ design.

I know exactly where you are coming from with Pinterest and it has become a new obsession and a great time waster. It does however, as you have found out have a great capacity for resources but you have to find them first. Both quilts are looking good and in your capable hands you will soon have them finished.

I felt that way too, but then I caved and got a Pinterest acct. I've enjoyed being able to save good ideas when I see them. I know your co-workers will love these 2 newest quilts - they are wonderful.

I am afraid to even lurk on Pinterest.
That does look like a good overall design to try.
I wish I worked with you long enough to win that Bricks and Steppingstones quilt. Love it!
I'm glad Courtyard came together easier than expected. It looks really good.

My daughter got me hooked on pinterest last winter. I love it... Would rather pin things I find to try someday than print them out and try to manage paper! These days I am mostly just adding to my boards not browsing it. Love your quilts and that's a great idea for FMQ practice. Bricks & Stepping Stones is a pattern I always admire.
