Progress on a UFO

Some of the UFOs hiding in sacks or boxes make me groan, but this one was a delight to find.  I didn't realize how much was already done when I put it away -- complete with block/row tags pinned to each 9-patch.   I wondered where those had gone.

I'm using a pattern by Debbie Caffrey, originally used in a LQS class five years ago.  I cut enough fabric for two quilts back then.  The first quilt went to a new home, and I'm finally finishing the second.

This is a nice combination of sister's choice and log cabin blocks.  When I opened the box, the 9-patches were done, log cabin blocks were partly done, and I found paper plates and baggies stacked and packed with squares and strips, labeled, sorted, and ready to use.   This is a perfect way to find an unfinished project.  I don't like finding a WIP or UFO where I have no clue how much has been done, what has to be done next, and what parts go where.

I spent the weekend quilting with friends (using my little red wagon to transport supplies from car to sewing table).    I finished the 20 sister's choice blocks and 48 log cabin blocks.  The 9-patches and the log cabin blocks finish at 6".  

There's enough leftover, uncut fabric in the bottom of the UFO box to g I may enlarge the quilt before I finish the top with the outside border of log cabins. 

Re: my stash busting goal for 2013--I'm not doing very well right now.  Working on a UFO doesn't really reduce the stash, and I'm expecting a package or two this week--after delivery of a couple packages and a 30-yard roll of "green" batting last week.   Still to come--a couple books, some quilting thread, and sale-priced cuts of fabric from here and there.   Maybe I'll be a better stash reducer next month.   January has been a disappointment.
