| found in a UFO box |
I'm using a pattern by Debbie Caffrey, originally used in a LQS class five years ago. I cut enough fabric for two quilts back then. The first quilt went to a new home, and I'm finally finishing the second.

| from 9-patches to sister's choice blocks |
I spent the weekend quilting with friends (using my little red wagon to transport supplies from car to sewing table). I finished the 20 sister's choice blocks and 48 log cabin blocks. The 9-patches and the log cabin blocks finish at 6".
There's enough leftover, uncut fabric in the bottom of the UFO box to g I may enlarge the quilt before I finish the top with the outside border of log cabins.
Re: my stash busting goal for 2013--I'm not doing very well right now. Working on a UFO doesn't really reduce the stash, and I'm expecting a package or two this week--after delivery of a couple packages and a 30-yard roll of "green" batting last week. Still to come--a couple books, some quilting thread, and sale-priced cuts of fabric from here and there. Maybe I'll be a better stash reducer next month. January has been a disappointment.

What nice and fun finishes!! Why is it that the more we sew those UFOs, the less impact it seems to make on the stash?
Great quilt! Nice to see a UFO go to the next step!
That is a GREAT way to come upon a UFO! Sometimes I put things away when I've hit a snag or am just not ready to spend hours trimming blocks, etc, but when I let it age, it is all new and exciting again. Your blocks look terrific. I like that quick method for the sister's choice blocks.
Stash enhancement isn't always a bad thing!
This is a wonderful quilt. I love the combo of these two blocks.
My stash isn't large enough to stress over reducing it. : )
I love this quilt so far and the log cabins are going to finish it off so well. Aren't you so glad you were so organised when you packed it away?! You may not be reducing stash by finishing this (unless you piece a backing!) but you will be creating cupboard space!!
That was a nice UFO find Vivian...wish my UFO's were that organized,
UFO buster, stash buster,is much the same in my book,,,

Those blocks are looking good! UFOs are definitely part of stash since they are not new purchases, they take up storage space just like any other fabric and if you find it and realize you don't like it anymore, the fabric from it might get put into other projects!
So you are on track and by getting this sewn up, you've made space for the stuff coming in!
Lovely quilt! And, to second Vivian, I think of UFOs as stash and I'm not counting fabric as used until the project is completed because of that. It takes up space - not only physically but especially mentally! The guilt, the overwhelming sense of where to begin and inability to truly enjoy a new project... Finish them up and move them out to be enjoyed.
Wow, that a great looking UFO - awesome discovery.
Don't let January be a disappoint in the stash busting quest. Allow yourself to simply enjoy. :-)
I've pulled out a UFO too - also a nine patch - AND I luaghed reading your post I hae a parcel coming of more fabric too..
Nice to meet you in blog land.
Love Leanne
Had a close-up look at your quilt pattern, and it's quite a nice setting, love the logcabin blocks border!! You must have been very organised to leave this UFO the way you did, doesn't make it such a chore when you come back to it after such a long time.
Oh! I so know what you mean about January being such a failure, I too have a few packages winging their way to my sewing room LOL!
Just enjoy! no guilt necessary!!!!!
What a terrific project!!
You can't count batting as stash enhancement. That is supplies:)
