An oldie, a newbie and a bright top done

First two "Market Basket" blocks--12" each
It's time to start a new quilt, and I decided to make baskets.  I'm working with a Moda "Harvest Moon" jelly roll (Kansas Troubles).  Looking through my books with jelly roll patterns, Kim Brackett's "Market Baskets"  in Scrap-Basket Surprises was an easy choice.  Fabrics are similar, and the basket blocks look like they'll be fun to make.   I'll enlarge the pattern, one row longer, and most of the jelly roll will go into the blocks.   Just a few Thimbleberries added, and I'm using background fabrics from my stash.

my first basket quilt in 1998
The pattern is straightforward, and Kim's instructions are always clear.  My block parts are all cut and sitting patiently on paper plates -- I'm ready to go.

This quilt will be quite different from the first basket quilt I made in 1998, as a beginning quilter.  DD2 had hardly worn but outgrew a pretty green/pink floral blouse and skirt set I'd sewn it for her, and I had quite a bit of yardage left.  In a magazine I saw a picture of a basket quilt, using floral fabric to fill the baskets, and that was the inspiration for this one.  (Poor photo -- this is a photo of a photo album page.)

I guess DD2 has the quilt in her home.  I haven't seen it for some time.

65 x 85" finished top--ready to be quilted
This bright quilt top is finished.  Thanks for all the suggestions for names.  I was reminded by several ladies not to think about pale daisies -- there are gerbera daisies and painted daisies, wild roses and zinnias -- all as bright and profuse as the squares in this quilt.
A suggestion from Frances was that I think about a famous garden.  Only one came to mind.  Our trip to Germany in 2011 to visit DS and his family included one day at Schwetzingen Castle.   The flowers and plantings were wonderful and organized, including a variety of greens, pinks, yellows, and purples.  (I'll ignore the orange in the quilt top.  The similarity is close enough.)

One VIP (our granddaughter Maddie) reminded me how much I like roundabouts.  She could see roundabouts in grandma's quilt, so I think the final name will be "Schwetzingen Roundabouts."   When I give away this quilt, along with the care instructions, I'll be sure to include an explanation of its name.

"Market Baskets" looks great! I love her books and could be happy making many of the quilts in them. And, your bright top is gorgeous too. So full of spring/summer...

Are you sure you shouldn't give that last one to Maddie as a reminder of her time in Europe? It is really pretty.
